The most frequently asked question by my clients is this, “Do I need malware protection?” The short simple answer is, yes.  Malware is real, it can & will get past your Antivirus program. Let me say that again; Antivirus will not detect malware.  Exactly what is malware? Here is the definition from Wikipedia

Malware, short for malicious software, is any software used to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain access to private computer systems.  Malware is defined by its malicious intent, acting against the requirements of the computer user, and does not include software that causes unintentional harm due to some deficiency.

Most often malware piggy backs on downloads. You may even download it thinking its a good thing.  Its sneaky to say the least. AOCS recommends using Malwarebytes.

New! Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium now Available!

Because our systems do important tasks and holds irreplaceable data, keeping it free from malware is a top priority.   Only last week while onsite with a client did I install and run a scan for malware, which found over 4,400 malware related files.  Get this, the system was still running pretty good before the scan, even had an active Antivirus program.  But the information has been compromised.

A good Antivirus program is still needed.  DO NOT rely on just one of these products, use both.  For a great solution choose Malwarebytes and Norton Antivirus.
